We warmly invite you to a special in-person side event at the upcoming WIOMSA Symposium showcasing the inspiring work of OCEAN grantees across the Western Indian Ocean. This will be a unique opportunity to hear directly from project leaders about their initiatives, the progress they are making, the challenges they face, and the next steps ahead.

Following the presentations, we will host interactive roundtables to exchange ideas on key issues in implementing projects that bring together marine conservation and poverty reduction through strong community participation.

Projects You’ll Hear About

  • Matumbawe-Hai: Revitalizing Livelihoods in SOMAKI-CFMA, Co-management, Habitat-Restoration and Eco-tourism — Action for Ocean, Tanzania
  • Incorporating Lamu East fisheries into a circular waste management model — The Flipflopi Project Foundation, Kenya
  • Climate-resilient Coastal Communities and Marine Biodiversity in Northern Mozambique — Zoological Society of London and Associação do Meio Ambiente (AMA), Mozambique
