The Details

Using technology to increase income for seaweed cultivators

Building Blue Economy to Empower Osi Island Seaweed Farmers empowers local seaweed cultivators through an innovative solar-powered drying system. The solar-powered drying system advances traditional methods of drying seaweed and is resilient to extreme weather caused by climate change, creating a higher quality seaweed product and reducing losses. This project tackles ocean conservancy by promoting sustainable practices, and fosters livelihood improvement through product diversification and increased income potential for the seaweed farmers. The project also engages communities, making Osi Island a model for the “Blue Economy,” which promotes economic growth while protecting our oceans.
